Bible Thought Blessings – Exodus 2:23b-24a, Romans 8:26

Blessings of freedom in Christ.  Prayer requests?

Exodus 2:23b-24a, “… And the sons of Israel sighed because of the bondage, and they cried out; and their cry for help because of their bondage rose up to God.  So God heard their groaning …”  Romans 8:26, “And in the same way the Spirit also helps our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.”

The sons of Jacob aka Israel had journeyed to Egypt during a severe famine (Genesis 42:2).  Unbeknownst to them, their younger brother Joseph, who they had previously sold into slavery (Genesis 37:28) and thought dead,  now ruled in Egypt second only to Pharaoh (Genesis 41:40).

The family stayed and flourished under Joseph’s protection.  However, after his death the new king of Egypt, who did not know Joseph, feared the Israelites’ number and strength (Exodus 1:8).  He forced them into slave labor and as their situation grew worse they cried out to the Lord God.  God not only heard He sent Moses to free them.

Two words stand out – bondage and groaning.

To what or whom do you find yourself in bondage?  A devastating relationship, depressing work situation, destructive desires, dubious habits, dark thoughts, debt?  Cry out to God.  He not only cares but is fully acquainted with all anguish even if you can’t or don’t verbalize.  Scriptures assure us that the Holy Spirit transmits your message to the Master’s divine ears.

This day accept the Father’s freedom from all bondage offered through the Savior and Son, the Lord Jesus Christ.  Even without words, He’s already at work for you.
