Storm Lessons of Life

Violent storm clouds, bruised and swollen, crowded over the ranch. Brutal winds screamed through flailing branches, and torrential rains began their angry descent. Lightning slashed the sky and thunder crashed overhead. I stood helpless, yet fascinated and transfixed at the front window. The powerful scene before me shouted its clear message, “You are not in control!”

Eventually the storm passed, and once again, calm reigned. You and I cannot control the storms that rudely intrude into our daily lives. Loss happens; tragedy overwhelms, pain triumphs, and depression smothers. We cannot change things, and any control we thought we had slowly slips through our fingers like warm water on a summer’s day, unwilling and unable to be firmly grasped.

However, even though we are not in control, God is!

Psalm 107:29, “He caused the storm to be still, So that the waves of the sea were hushed.”

Matthew 8:26, “He (Jesus) said to them, “Why are you afraid, you men of little faith?” Then He got up and rebuked the winds and the sea, and it became perfectly calm.”

No matter what storms life may bring, God is more powerful. Will you unburden your heart and turn to Him right now? God cares and both calms and controls all life’s storms, including yours.

“Dear Lord, help me to recognize my storms and relinquish them to your control. Thank you, Amen.”

Blessings of victory in the storms! Prayer requests?
