Control and Change – Who’s in Charge?

The text message indicated not only a gate change but a different terminal as well. Time was tight and a mad dash ensued as heels pounded hard tile, purse straps slid down the arm, and the black roller bag bounced unsteadily to the side. Out of breath and with only minutes to spare the destination was reached, but . . .  the flight  boarded late and the rush proved pointless.

You can prepare for the future, but change happens, and that’s when things can get scary and confusing. But we have choices. We can view the situation with streams of ugly words, slamming of figurative or literal doors, and somehow turn the unavoidable into self-blame. Or we can say that some, if not most, things are simply beyond our control. But if we aren’t in control then who is?

Consider the words of Christian Scripture:

“The Lord has established His throne in the heavens, and His sovereignty rules over all,” Psalm 103:19

“Your right hand, O Lord, is majestic in power, Your right hand, O Lord, shatters the enemy,” Exodus 15:6

“He who is the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords,” 1 Timothy 6:15

“O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is Your name in all the earth!” Psalm 8:9

“Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord God, the Almighty, Who was, Who is, and Who is to come,” Revelation 4:8

“Worthy are You, our Lord and our God, to receive glory and honor and power, for You created all things, and because of Your will they existed, and were  created,” Revelation 4:11

In these words I take comfort. The Triune God of all is in control not only of this day, but of all our days.

“Dear Lord, help me rest in Your power and rely on Your presence in all I face this week. Thank, Jesus, Amen.”

Will you trust Him with each moment?
